When the Las Vegas Sands Corp. and its partners bought the old Venetian casino in June 2021, they had one clear plan in mind: convert the complex into a mega-hotel resort. They announced that they would be adding two golf courses and one other resort onto the existing five-star Las Vegas hotel. That was just the beginning, however, as a few months later, the companies revealed plans to convert yet another portion of the Las Vegas Sands Corp. properties into a huge new mega-resort casino resort. And now, barely a year later, the entire project is under way.

Perhaps in hindsight, state and city leaders would have been wise to have kept the old Convention Center around and instead putting up several events in the heart of the city for people who want to gamble but don’t want to walk down to their local casinos to do so. After all, with all of the noise and chaos associated with the construction and opening of the new venues, it’s easy to forget what else is going on right there. While the major construction on the gambling sites is wrapping up, and all of the tourists and locals who come to Las Vegas for different events are heading home, the other developments continue to go on.

In addition to the new Venetian casinos, the soon to be opened Stratosphere Hotel and Casino is another high profile venue where you can play some “real” gambling. However, it doesn’t look like the folks who own the sites have put any thought into offering any more than the already successful online gambling sites. It appears that they simply want to keep selling their already successful live gaming operations. The sites don’t have any plans to offer any more than the already successful online casinos.

Of course the one place that will be offering people something unique is the World Wide Web. As long as people are willing to travel to Las Vegas, they will be able to find a place in this urban jungle to play their “real money”. There is nothing more exciting than the idea of “playing the game,” and betting real money. That is a thrill that nobody will find in any land-based casinos. Gambling, at its very basic level, is the process of betting one’s own money on the outcome of an event.

There is a very basic science to this process. When people bet on horses or basketball or baseball, they are betting on an outcome –whether it will occur in one direction or another, and whether the outcome will be good or bad. A casino would not call these people “gamblers” since the odds of any event, no matter how large or small, determining the outcome is completely dependent on the collective human effort to see that event occur.

Gambling in Las Vegas, however, is not like this. People can gamble in Las Vegas without leaving their homes. Gambling online, as well, has gotten to the point where people can literally play Las Vegas games from anywhere in the world, at any time of the day or night. The biggest difference between the online and land-based casinos is obviously the proximity of their operations to one another. The U.S. government has placed some measures in place that attempt to limit the amount of gambling that takes place in the United States, but the internet has made it impossible to actually stop gambling by law.
